Elite Fitness for All

by John Planow on December 9, 2008

I know I’ve blogged about this before, but it’s worth doing again.  This excellent article reinforces that women can and should seek elite fitness as much as men, despite what society might have to say to the contrary.

I think this message applies to many other segments of the population as well.  You don’t have to be a 20-year-old male to train hard and be fit.  Old or young, short or tall, scrawny, overweight, and everywhere in between, you should dare to dream big.  If you set your mind to a goal and put in a bit of hard work, there’s no end to the wonders you can achieve.

December 10, 2008 WOD

“Fight Gone Bad”
3 rounds, 1 minute of each:
wall ball
sumo deadlift high pull
box jump
push press
row (for calories)
rest

Argh! I’m upset I’m missing this one.

I’d like to blow off my final to come to the noon session, but… Oh well!

‘Til next time, Fight Gone Bad!

FGB – 270 (PR)
Previous PR=259 10/08/08.
I really want 300!

Scott December 10, 2008 at 10:10 am

Great job Justin. You’ll get 300 next time I bet. My goal today is 225, 15 a round. Hope I make it. Last time was 208.

Mason Medeiros December 10, 2008 at 11:12 am

Congrats to Justin, todays champion of us AMer’s, who mid-WOD had me wondering “who the hell keeps yelling out twenties?!”

240 for me today. Going for 275 next time!

Nehal December 10, 2008 at 12:02 pm

I’m hoping I can finally crack 200. I’m going to try pacing myself better today.

Mason Medeiros December 10, 2008 at 1:52 pm

Good idea Nehal, pace is definitely key in a WOD like “Fight Gone Bad”. There’s no sense in using up all your mojo during foreplay if it’s gonna gas you out before the games over! Jeez, where do I come up with these horrible comparisons?!

Scott December 10, 2008 at 2:00 pm

216, 9 shy, but still an improvement. In order of starting position to finish.

BJ 21 15 15
PP 17 14 10
R 18 15 17
WB 16 12 9
SD 15 12 10

Kurt December 10, 2008 at 2:14 pm

Lauren December 10, 2008 at 3:53 pm

Well I am happy to say that my first real WOD at CrossFit Genesis was Fight Gone Bad.

207!

Nehal December 10, 2008 at 5:08 pm

Great job today, Kurt!

202

Hey Phil-

Check this cop out. I like his style.

Maybe you can start incorporating WoDs into people’s tickets if you don’t feel like ticketing them….

“Alright, you can either get a ticket .. or do 50 burpees for time”

Mason Medeiros December 11, 2008 at 10:14 am

Haha that video was awesome!

Thursday (12/11/08)
Justin, Kirill, and I hit Gold’s to do heavy double overhead squats, max single shoulder press, and max single weighted pullups.

OHS 2-2-2-2-2 (Wade: 90, Justin: 177, Kirill: 177)
SP 1-1-1-1-1 (Wade: 142, Justin: 165, Kirill: ?)
WPU 1-1-1-1-1 (Wade: 95, Justin: 80, Kirill: 90)

Fun (and muscle pump) was had by all.

Wade Smith December 11, 2008 at 9:06 pm

Oops: Wade OHS 100lbs

Blair Lowe December 11, 2008 at 11:57 pm

Wade, your weighted pullup is commendable. Some good weights done by all for Justin and Kirill.
