Construction Update

by John Planow on September 29, 2008

More great progress on the new gym…

I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel with us moving workouts to the new place.  Most of the major painting will be done in one more session.  We’ve got a rough design for a pullup structure that won’t take long to build.  And last but not least, the outside construction of the office will be done in the next couple of days.  We’re getting close!  Stay tuned.

Push-press Pullup Conga Line
5 rounds:
max reps push press
max reps pullup

The “Conga Line” format means everyone will start in a line.  The person at the front of the line will perform the first exercise to failure.  When they are finished, they will move on to the next exercise, while the next person in line performs the first exercise.  After performing both exercises, each person will move to the back of the line, where they will wait until it is their turn to go again.  The workout is complete when each person has completed the prescribed number of rounds.

World’s Fittest Athlete

by Phil Mancini on September 29, 2008

There’s a somewhat heated debate on the CrossFit Games website regarding the 2009 games.  The underlying theme is that CrossFit is trying to determine the World’s Fittest Athlete.  If you follow the main site, you’ll regularly see Dave Castro commenting on the mainstream definition of fitness and his frustration with the notion that low-intensity, long distance endurance events usually get the nod for testing maximum fitness.

So how do we measure the World’s Fittest Athlete?  How do we measure the 10 physical adaptations of fitness?  Think about it and post your thoughts to comments.

These two things may seem at odds to you, but they’re not.  We demand proper technique not just for the sake of safety — that is only the first [...]

CrossFit Games 2009

September 27, 2008

CrossFit is already gearing up for the 2009 CrossFit Games.  There appears to be some significant changes in store and I can’t say that I’m happy about it.  Allow me to explain.
As it stands now, next years games will have no scaled workouts.  Everyone competing will be doing the same workout.  I’m not sure how [...]

Personal Records

September 25, 2008

Four athletes.  Four personal records.
That’s what we had at the Thursday evening workout this week.  Justin, Nehal, and Scott all bested their previous max lifts for overhead squat by a wide margin.  Andrew worked on his front squats today, made tremendous progress, and was lifting significant weights by the end of the workout.
Have you set [...]
